Scientists have explained: Depression can be cured at home!

Scientists conducted a study showing that a “swimming cap”-like device they developed for home use can be effective in severe depression cases that do not respond to medication and therapy. In the study conducted on 174 people, an approximately 58 percent improvement in depressive symptoms was observed in those who used the device.

It was determined that a device developed by scientists for home use could be effective in cases of depression that do not respond to medication and therapy.
Scientists who evaluated the effects of the “swimming cap”-like device they developed on depression tested the device on 174 people diagnosed with severe depression.
The device, which delivers weak electrical currents to the part of the brain associated with the decision-making process that is generally less active in people with depression, showed a “noticeable decrease” in depressive symptoms in those who used it regularly for 10 weeks.
Participants were divided into two groups in the remote clinical study. Those in the treatment group used the device in 30-minute sessions five times in the first 3 weeks, and three times a week for the next 7 weeks. The patients in the control group wore a fake headset that only delivered a short current pulse at the beginning of the session and mimicked the same stimulation feeling.
As a result of the research, it was recorded that the depression symptoms of the participants who used the developed device decreased by approximately 58 percent compared to the control group. Scientists emphasized that this device could be groundbreaking for more than one third of people who do not respond to standard treatment methods and psychotherapy for depression. The results of the research were published in the journal “Nature Medicine”.
