According to Yonhap, South Korea’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) announced that approximately 11,000 North Korean soldiers deployed to Russia began fighting alongside Russian troops against Ukraine at the end of October.
The statement said that North Korean soldiers are expected to suffer more casualties as they take on active duties on the front lines, and that work is ongoing to determine the number of dead or injured North Korean soldiers.
It was claimed that North Korea sent additional howitzers and multiple rocket launchers to Russia, and it was stated that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un may visit Russia again.
Russian President Vladimir Putin paid an official visit to North Korea in June, and the parties signed a “comprehensive strategic partnership agreement” was signed.
In statements made by the US and NATO at the end of October, it was noted that North Korea had sent troops to Russia and that they were deployed in the Kursk region close to the Ukrainian border.
