Tech giant’s €1 billion fine cancelled

The European Court of Justice has ruled on the fine imposed on technology company Intel. The high court has cancelled the decision that imposed a 1 billion euro fine on the company.

The 1 billion euro fine imposed on technology company Intel 15 years ago has been cancelled. The European Court of Justice has upheld the decision to cancel the fine of over 1 billion euros imposed by the EU Commission on technology company Intel 15 years ago on the grounds that it abused its dominant position. The EU’s highest court, the European Court of Justice, headquartered in Luxembourg, has ruled on the case regarding the EU Commission’s fine against Intel. The high court has rejected the EU Commission’s appeal against a lower court ruling to overturn Intel’s fine and upheld the lower court ruling that overturned the commission’s decision imposing a €1.06 billion fine on Intel. In 2009, the EU Commission imposed a €1.06 billion fine on US firm Intel for anti-competitive behavior by offering discounts to computer manufacturers. Intel had initiated legal proceedings against the EU Commission’s fine. In 2022, the EU General Court overturned the commission’s fine against Intel due to various procedural and legal errors in the investigation. The EU Commission had taken the case to the highest court.
