Technological birds of the sky “UAVs”

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that as of September 2024, the number of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles in Turkey increased by 12.5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 68 thousand 647, while the number of pilots increased by 6.6 percent, reaching 1 million 536 thousand 993.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made statements regarding the number of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and UAV pilot licenses in Turkey.

Drawing attention to the increase in the number of UAVs and the number of people with UAV pilot licenses thanks to the training and studies carried out by the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (SHGM) in the field of civil aviation in recent years, Minister Uraloğlu said, “As of the end of September 2024, the number of UAVs reached 68 thousand 647 with an increase of 12.5 percent compared to the same period of 2023. The number of UAV pilots increased by 6.6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 1 million 536 thousand 993.” he spoke.

5 THOUSAND TO 8 THOUSAND NEW UAVS ARE REGISTERED EVERY YEAR Reminding that the General Directorate of Civil Aviation had created a special registration system for UAVs within the scope of the “UAV Systems Instruction”, Minister Uraloğlu said that this way, great convenience was provided in the permits, flights and registrations of the vehicles in question. Underlining that approximately 5 thousand to 8 thousand new UAVs were registered in the UAV registration system every year, Minister Uraloğlu stated that the use of UAVs in different sectors such as agricultural spraying, photography, cinema, mapping, traffic, security, cargo and health had increased considerably. ALL UAV OPERATIONS WILL BE MANAGED BY SHGM Uraloğlu also stated that they will ensure the integration of UAVs into the existing airspace with an accessible, affordable, efficient, safe, environmentally friendly and digital approach with the UAV Tracking and Traffic Management System (İHATTYS) Project, and said, “Thus, we will eliminate the safety and security problems created by UAVs. The İHATTYS Project aims to ensure that all UAV operations in our country can be managed safely and securely by SHGM without any hardware being installed on the UAVs.”
