Mayor Elif Köse, in her statement to reporters, stated that the festival was turned into a saffron harvest event due to the terrorist attack and expressed her condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the terrorist attack.
Saffron’s Importance for the District Expressing that it is important, Köse said, “Unfortunately, production is not very much. When we look at history, perhaps enough saffron was produced for Turkey, but now we cannot even produce enough saffron to meet Safranbolu’s own needs.
It is very important that saffron production has increased again since 2015. I believe that production will be very high from now on. The number of farmers increases every year, and the interest in Safranbolu is also high with each harvest season. That’s why it makes us very happy,” he said.
Edanur Erkin, who came to Karabük 2 months ago, said that she had never seen saffron before and said: “When it comes to saffron flowers, I didn’t know I would come across such a sight. It is very beautiful. There is great interest. F
I learned about its fruits and that it is the most expensive spice here.” Noting that she participated in the saffron harvest for the first time in Karabük, where she has been living for 4 years, Karabük University student Buse Polat said, “Saffron is a very valuable spice. It is also used in Turkish delight and cologne. I tried to be careful not to damage the flower while picking it.” Producer İsmail Yılmaz reported that locals and foreigners showed great interest in the harvest event.
