TikTok, which was blocked in the US after the law that stipulated its closure on national security grounds came into effect, returned 12 hours later. Some users in the country began accessing the app. US President-elect President Donald Trump said that he would issue an order extending the ban after he took office on Monday.
TikTok, which was closed in the US, returned about 12 hours later. On Saturday, TikTok sent a message to its users saying, “A law banning TikTok has come into effect in the US. Unfortunately, this means you won’t be able to use TikTok for now. “Fortunately, President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to restore TikTok as soon as he takes office.” he said.
170 million users were unable to access the app.
US President-Elect Trump made statements about the TikTok ban during a phone call on NBC News. Trump said he would likely grant TikTok a 90-day extension to comply with the relevant law requiring the social media app to be shut down in the US unless its Chinese-based parent company sells it to a US company. “There will probably be a 90-day extension, I think that’s an appropriate step,” Trump said, adding that he would probably announce his decision on the day he takes office on January 20.
Following Trump’s statement, some US users began accessing TikTok on Sunday.
TIKTOK THANKED TRUMP
Tiktok made a statement to Trump “TikTok is in the process of restoring service through agreement with our service providers. We thank President Trump for providing clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will not face any penalties for making TikTok available to more than 170 million Americans and allowing more than 7 million small businesses to thrive,” the statement said.
