US President Trump postponed the executive order banning TikTok for 75 days. Trump argued that the US should have the right to buy half of TikTok.
US President Donald Trump instructed the Department of Justice not to enforce the law banning TikTok nationwide for 75 days. US President Trump signed many presidential executive orders at his first signing ceremony in the Oval Office. One of these decrees was regarding the postponement of the TikTok ban. According to the executive order published on the White House website, Trump asked the Justice Department not to enforce the TikTok ban for 75 days. The executive order stated that this would prevent the sudden shutdown of a communications platform used by millions of Americans and provide an opportunity to determine the appropriate path forward that protects national security. Trump also said in his speech at the signing ceremony that if he did not approve, TikTok was worthless and would have to shut down. Stating that he thought TikTok was worth $ 1 trillion, Trump argued that the US should have the right to buy half of TikTok. WHY WAS TIKTOK BANNED? TikTok was banned in the US over the weekend in accordance with the law that stipulates that it would be banned in the US if it was not sold to an American company. In a statement regarding the TikTok ban on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump used the following expressions: “On Monday, I will issue an executive order that will extend the time the provisions of the law go into effect so that we can make an agreement to protect our national security.” Trump also stated that companies that support TikTok to prevent it from being banned will not have legal liability with the decree in question, but he said he wanted half of TikTok to belong to Americans. TikTok then started providing services in the country again.
