RUSSIAN FLEET MELTDOWN This loss adds to the large number of military jets that Russia has lost during the war in Ukraine. Russia’s air force has suffered heavy losses both in friendly fire situations and when Ukrainian forces shot down Putin’s military jets. Since launching a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia has lost about 10 percent of its aircraft fleet. Ukraine is seeking to strike Russian facilities that play a role in facilitating the country’s war effort. These targets include airports, military facilities, ammunition depots and oil refineries.
