US Threatens Gaza: “It Won’t Be a Good Day If Hostages Are Not Released”

Following the collapse of the Assad Regime in Syria, all eyes turned to Gaza. The Middle East representative of the new US President Donald Trump, who will take office on January 20, made a veiled threat for the release of the hostages. While the number of hostages remaining in Hamas’ hands is being clarified, the sides are reportedly close to a 60-day ceasefire.

Steve Witkoff, US President-elect Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy, said, “The hostages in Gaza must be released before the inauguration on January 20. Otherwise, it will not be a good day.” Speaking during a conference in Abu Dhabi, Witkoff said, “I pray for a ceasefire in Gaza before Trump takes office.” He used the expressions.

Israeli Media reported that the parties were close to a two-month ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
It was reported that the Hamas delegation in Cairo met with Egyptian intelligence.
Within the framework of the agreement, women, sick and injured hostages are expected to be released first.
Israeli media reported that Hamas, which is preparing for a ceasefire agreement, has made a list of all hostages in its hands.
Hamas, which took 251 people hostage on October 7, is thought to currently hold 96 hostages. It is stated that 109 of them were released, eight were rescued and the lifeless bodies of 38 were found during the ceasefire in November 2023.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu suggested that the collapse of the Assad regime in Syria would facilitate a hostage agreement.

The Israeli Foreign Minister said that indirect talks were continuing. The Minister, who used the phrase “We can be optimistic”, added that we have not reached a conclusion yet.
